Sheep

We have four sheep on Capella Ranch, Louie, Sessee (CC), Bex, and Sassy.

Louie and CC were rescue bottle babies and are a product of Targhee rams bred with Rambouillet and Suffolk ewes. Louie and CC love to yell at us from across the field and run over with a welcoming bleat to let us know they are happy to see us.  They both love to snuggle and have their ears scratched.

Louie

Louie is the biggest animal at Capella Ranch. We’ve never put him on the scale, but we think he’s somewhere between 300 and 400 pounds. That’s a lot of “Louie Love”. Louie usually is first to come out and say hi. Unless there’s fresh hay. Then you’re on your own.

SESSEE (CC)

CC joined the ranch at the same time as Louie. They were bottle babies together. CC is especially fond of getting ear scratches and will cross the barnyard just for that. CC is known for her loud, deep, relentless yelling for food whenever she’s hungry. She’s loud. Really loud.

Sassy

Sassy and Bex joined the ranch together as bottle babies. Sassy has grown into a wonderfully gentle ewe who will definitely come over for snuggles, but it takes her a while. She has the softest wool of all the sheep. Sassy also has a rather odd friendship with Callie, a Nigerian Dwarf goat. Those two are often inseparable, although we’re not entirely sure Sassy is all that happy with it.

Bex

Bex was a rescue bottle baby with Sassy, and while Sassy grew comfortable with humans, Bex never really did. Oh sure, sometimes she’ll get close - especially if there is food involved. But otherwise she maintains her distance. Bex has a disability - one front foot has a birth defect that left her without a hoof. Instead she has a hand-like pad that she uses to walk. She gets around the barnyard just fine!
