Kevin the Turkey
In spring of 2025, we were raising chicks and on a lark, Carolyn brought home a couple of turkey chicks from our local feed store. Sadly, one didn’t make it, and when we went back to get the lone turkey chick a friend, the store was all sold out. So we had just one chick, and didn’t know if it was male or female, so our daughter Chloe suggested we name it “Kevin” after “Kevin the Bird” from Disney’s “Up”. What a perfect fit for a turkey name!
In late summer we moved all the spring birds out with the full Capella Ranch flock. That was when we first saw Kevin’s personality surface. She would come over at scratch time and want attention and eventually to be hand-fed scratch. Then one day in August as I approached the chicken yard, Kevin saw me, ran over, and jumped up on a gate to greet me. I was surprised, but followed her lead, and from then on, she’s set the pace on how much fun we have together.
Turns out that Kevin is also a “camera hog” and when I’m out recording chores for our Capella Ranch YouTube channel, Kevin inevitably photobombs. So what else to do? Kevin got her own YouTube channel:
